Hiking the Marmore Waterfalls in Terni, Italy

What better way to spend a random Sunday in March than hiking to the top of the largest man-made waterfall in the world?
The Marmore Waterfall in Terni, Italy was one of, if not the most, beautiful waterfall I have ever seen. The waterfall, itself, is surrounded by, what looks like, layers of mountains that are flooded with trees, shrubbery, and flowers that beautifully compliment the waterfall.
Although, the waterfall was stunning, the hike to get to the main viewpoint that overlooks the waterfall was just as beautiful. On the way to the top of the mountain we passed by many winding trials that followed the path of the river that was formed by the runoff of the waterfall. Along these trails were bridges, caves, picnic areas, and checkpoint like areas where you were able to stop for a moment to take in all the different views of the waterfall.
Despite how lovely it is to live in Rome, I believe it is crucial for anyone anywhere to allow themselves the freedom to get out of their city or hometown to embody and experience the nature that is surrounding them. 1 hour in any direction can get you very far, and in this case it brought me to one of the most amazing hidden gems I have found yet in Italy.
Taking advantage of your free time in unique ways is something of an art form that I am currently in the process of trying to perfect. There is always new things to see, new places to discover, new people to meet, and new memories to be made. The only thing standing between you and making these new experiences your reality is a step outside of your comfort zone. It’s a constant routine that you intentionally have to make, but eventually it will become habitual and soon enough you will find yourself creating these situations in your life that is full of excitement, adventure, and opportunity.
