Croatia: the final international trip of my spring semester. And an absolutey fantastic one. Croatia was the perfect desitination to get a jump start on summer with its warm weather, sunny days, and boat tours.
There were many highlights and notable moments of this trip whether it be from swimming on Bacvice Beach, taking a boat tours to outlying islands, or simply eating local foods on the harbors edge in Split.
This trip ended up having a spontaneous excursion on the final day that concluded in a boat tour to some of Croatia’s most famous and beautiful sights. Originally, the plan was to spend the entirety of the weekend exploring Split. However, I quickly noticed that Split, although beautiful, was a lot smaller than I anticipated it to be. After a whole day of walking around, lounging on the beach, and visiting the markets and stores of Split, I felt as though I needed a change of scenery for my last day, so I landed on taking a boat tour.

I found this last minute boat tour on Get Your Guide which has an abundance of tours to chose from with a wide range of prices and content. The only other things I knew I would like to se was Vis Island and the Blue Cave, and I was able to find a tour that comprised of both those stops and some.
The Blue Cave was a jaw-dropping wonder of Croatia that I can’t believe wasn’t apart of my original itinerary. The vibrant blue color reflecting off the clear water onto all of the rocky walls of this cave was so fascinating. The tiny entrance you have to take by boat into the cave itself made me feel like I was transported into another world.

Following the Blue Cave was a stop at Vis Island where parts of the film Mamma Mia, Here We Go Again was filmed. This small island made all of my worries disappear. It’s simplicity aided in its overall charm that was noticeable from the second I stepped foot off the boat. With harbor side restaurants, locally owned coffee shops, and anchored fishing boats Vis was a magical stop that I wish I could’ve been dropped off at for the rest of the day.
In addition to Vis, I got to see many other of Croatia’s beautiful places such as Hvar adn the Blue Lagoon. Both of these places served as fantastic swim spots since the water was super refreshing and clear.

Croatia seemed to be a kind of destination that requires some planning before arriving. A majority of the things that are worth seeing aren’t easily accessible without tours, so booking in advance is crucial if you are only there for a short time like I was and are wanting to see more than just one town. Luckily, even though I didn’t plan in advance I went during a time before the big wave of tourism hit, so I was able to sneak an extra seat onto a boat tour leaving the following day.

All in all, Croatia was simply gorgeous. The combination of the beach aesthetic with the old timey roads created an atmosphere that felt very warm and comforting.
