A Weekend in Manchester, England

November 22, 2024- November 24, 2024

England has always been one of my favorite travel destinations for many reasons. It may be becuase of the food, my familiarity with the language, or the overall feeling of England itself. However, my trip to England during this weekend exceeded all of my past experiences because it combined two things that I absolutely love; Christmas and concerts!

Christmas tree and wrapping paper building decorations

I bet you’re wondering what drove me to travel to England, specifically Manchester, for a second time after my first trip to Brighton, which you can read about here. As I mentioned before, I am a big concert lover and all things music, so during my travel and music research I saw that my favorite band, Palace, was having a Europe tour, and they happened to be playing in Manchester at the perfect time. I don’t think I have ever been quicker to purchase both plane and concerts tickets.

The concert itself could not have been better. With a setlist, that I somehow ended up catching at the end of the night, full of some of my favorite songs, it made my trip to Manchester worth every single second and penny.

I love basing my travels around big events such as ones like these because it adds another layer of connection to a trip that makes it unique and more memorable

Aside from the concert, which was the main event of this trip, I knew I couldn’t go to England without checking out the Christmas markets because, after all, ‘tis the season. The Christmas markets in Manchester, unlike some others I have been to, seemed to mainly focus on food rather than items you could purchase. The stalls were just as spirited and decorative, but I have to opt for their typical souvenir stores to get some small items such as ornaments, postcards, stickers, etc.

Entrance to Freight Island

The highlight of my festive activities on this trip was hands down the Twilight Trail in Freight Island. For £11 you get full access to an immersive Christmas light/ sound trail that is connected to an. Even bigger building filled with live music, great food, and the Christmas spirit.

I oculdn’t reccomend this place more highly and it’s even more amazing becuase it it open year round, so it’s not just necessarily just a Christmas destination. So if you are visiting Manchester, England at any time in the year, be sure to check out the activities going on at Freight Island.

This fun, event-filled weekend in Manchester, England was a lovely weekend excursion full of so many good memories, and England definitely still remains at the top of my favorite travel destinations list.
