A Day Trip to Castel Gandolfo

My roommate and I found our way onto the 8:20am train that went to Castel Gandolfo (a.k.a. The Pope’s Villa) this morning and it is hands down my favorite day trip I have ever taken! After a short 45 minute train ride from Rome, we found ourselves overlooking Lake Albano right upon exiting the train. The view was breathtaking and after a 5 minute walk up to the small town itself it only proved itself to be the most beautiful little Italian town I’ve seen. Its quaintness and simplicity is what I loved so much about it. We then decided to get a walking tour of the Pope’s Garden for 5 euros and a free walk around pass for 5 more euros to actually see the inside of his villa! This was such a laid back and easy day trip and even though we left at 4pm we felt like we saw every part of the town. I will never get over Castel Gandolfo and I am already planning on going back specifically to swim in the lake next time I visit! I loved this trip and couldn’t recommend visiting more!
