Surfing in Ostia, Italy

I never would have thought that I would go surfing three days before Halloween… but here we are! Despite my craving for cool weather, surfing was the perfect way to make me rethink my thoughts about how hot Italy is because today, it’s lingering heat worked to my advantage. My day started with a quick train ride to Ostia from Trastevere and upon my arrival I ate some delicious breakfast right across from the ocean at a little cafe. After a five minute walk to the beach from there, I was provided with a wetsuit and surfboard and began a surfing lesson. The instructors were so sweet and just as excited to teach me the basics as I was to learn them. Despite the rough waters from this windy day in Ostia, I was able to catch a lot of waves. Nothing too crazy, though. I’ve always loved the beach and surfing isn’t as difficult as you may think, so I would encourage everyone to give it a try because the satisfaction of getting up puts you at an all time high!

I had such a fun time on this trip and recognized that it was a great way to spend my last time in the water this season. I am happy to say that surfing in Italy is now checked off my bucket list!
