During my week in Australia I decided that I didn’t want to sit in one place and satellite out to different sights because Australia is so big and there is so much to see. In my previous post about my time in Melbourne, which you can check out here, I talk about the best things to do in the city. However, I got the urge to leave the city to experience some of the coast of Australia, so I headed toward the Great Ocean Road and found myself landing in a small coastal town called Jan Juc, Australia!
Jan Juc was the perfect coastal get-away for the weekend. It was very easily navigatbale and it’s location made it feel like there was a limitless amount of thigns to do. I found the small clothing stores by the coast to be very intriguing because there was a wide array of different fashion trends and unique designs aiding to Jan Juc and all of Australia that was only in this little town. My favorite thing I did during my time in Jan Juc was riding bikes by the mina coastal road that is filled with so many people and restaurants. The beach vibes always felt very high here. I’m a fan of walking during my travels to see everything, but biking may have that beat because I got to see so much more in a shorter amount of time. I biked to the beach to swim, along the coastline trials, and to restaurants on multiple occasions.
That brings me directly into probably the most fantastic part about Jan Juc; the food. Of course the seafood here is bound to be great, but I also loved the variety I got to pick from. My two favorite restaurants had to be Doc’s by the ocean and Sticks and Stones breakfast which are both pictured to the left!
If for some reason, you do find yourself wanting to see something other than Jan Juc there are many surrounding places along the Great Ocean Road that you can get to very easily. During my time in Jan Juc, I took a day trip to Lorne which I very easily fell in love with. This was an amazing day trip and although it still had the beachside vibes, it felt different than Jan Juc. In Lorne, there is a small hike I took to a stunning viewpoint called Teddy’s Lookout. I woudl recommend packing some lunch for this hike so you at with the most marvelous view of the ocean and the Great Ocean Road beneath you. I may have also fell in love with these coastal towns because I accidentally got to see a once in lifetime aurora called the southern lights! I don’t think my luck could have been any more perfect because the southern lights were supposedly at their brightest just as I was walking home late on night.
The southern coast of Australia has definitely won over my heart very easily. Although transportation is accessible and helpful I would recommend renting a car during your journey to Australia because use there were some hikes that were only accessible by car, and, of course, there are miles and miles of the Great Ocean Road you can explore.
Hopefully this has provided some insight into potential places to add to your list of thigns to see in Australia on the southern coastline. If you are interested in finding out more about the city life of Australia you can check out my post about the Top 3 Activites in Melbourne, Australia!
